Old is New - Bounty of Mother Earth

It's that time again!

Time to brush our teeth?

Time to start that crossover fanfic that we'll inevitably lose interest in and abandon?

No! It's time to revisit some of my older works, recreate them, and then look at them side by side to see how they compare! Today's image is a redo of my old drawing of Mii fro Jungle de Ikou!



- Like many of these redos, the most obvious difference are the improvements in anatomy, proportion and color.

- In addition to looking more on model, Mii has a greater sense of weight and mass to her now. Not just because of the huge belly, but also in the way her legs are splayed out and how she uses her arms to support herself.

- The little baby spirits, while just as odd as ever, have a lot more going on as well. The ones bringing her food have a larger variety of food stuffs in tow and the different expressions make them more interesting than before. My particular favorite are the ones attempting to lift her belly, which I feel is more fun than how they simply rubbed her in the original.

-Like the original I went for an abstract background, but grounded it in the series' jungle theme with the shapes of tall grasses, flowers, and trees. The softer green and yellow colors also ensure that Mii pops a bit more from the background, as opposed to the original where she kind of got lost in the sea of bright orange and yellow.

-Composition-wise, opening things up horizontally does a lot to improve the way things are organized, particularly with regards to the text. Having it appear in front of Mii and arranged with regards to her girth helps to draw the eye across the image.

-Speaking of the text, instead of a flat, boring font I went with hand lettering that emulates the title font for Jungle de Ikou, which definitely adds a lot more personality.
